ATV accident while 13 weeks pregnant!
My future-sister-in-law just got into an ATV accident 2 days ago. She has multiple fractures to her C5 vertebrae and a broken right arm, but thankfully can move her left arm. While in the ICU, she found out that she and my brother are 13 weeks pregnant!!! (Don't ask me how she didn't know sooner!) The doctors say the baby has a strong heart beat, but I'm worried about how this experience will effect the baby's future health for years to come, especially because of all the drugs they're giving her while she's in hospital. Will it effect his/her health or organ functions or mental health/intellect?
They're expecting her to make a full recovery, though it'll take months and months of physical therapy.
Has anyone else been in a situation like this, where they had a traumatic spinal injury while pregnant? How did it go? Was your baby born healthy, or did they develop physical or emotional or mental issues later in life? Also, did you give birth vaginally or need a C-section?
