Mirena for the first time?

I'm going tomorrow to get the Mirena iud and I am extremely nervous. I don't have children and I know it's marketed more towards women who have had a child, but my obgyn strongly suggests it and says it's better in the long run because of my excruciating period cramps. ANYWAY. Is there anything I should know going forward? I'm super nervous. Tell me about your experience with it?

Everyone said it was a little bit painful. So I went and got it Monday and it was the worst pain I've ever had my entire life. After I talked to my friends about my experience they said "ohhhh yeah sorry I have kids so because you haven't it probably was a lot worse for you" the cramping and back pain after is horrible as well its been 4 days and I still have to take ibuprofen every 4 hours to manage the pain

If you generally get bad cramps DO NOT drive home, I made this mistake and vomited all over myself and the steering wheel and the door...like everywhere.  It felt like contractions...after a day or 2 it was fine though and apart from the continuous spotting and occasional weird moods and periods of forgetfulness it's really convenient! No cramp pains after the first fortnight AT ALL which is weird for me because my cramps were awful lol.  Hope this doesn't scare you or put you off, I'm just giving you my experience so you have more than just 'it will be a bit uncomfortable' spiels...prepare, take deep breaths and you'll be fine 😊

Definitely take Motrin or Tylenol before getting it inserted. That's the only part that hurt me. It's quick but a little painful. Water, more Motrin, and feet up afterwards. I had cramping after with slight bleeding.
Also check the strings on a daily basis. They're soft. At first you won't be able to tell where they are.
My pms got a lot better. My periods weren't too heavy. But I lost a lot of weight due to having no appetite. Good luck!
