Am I bad person?

Question

I've not been brought up in a religious household at all really but I do believe in God. When I was 17, I stole some perfume from a department store for somebody's birthday and got caught. I got banned from the store and the police cautioned me and obviously my parents were so disappointed in me and grounded me for a month. However, over a year on and I still feel so guilty about this. I worry that God will see all the bad things I've done and send me to hell. I hate myself for doing it and wish I could take it all back. I'm so selfish and ungrateful for doing it, should I be punishing myself this much?

God is loving and forgiving. If you pray and repent your sins and ask him to change your heart, he will. Everyone sins, everyone does things they are ashamed of. Just remember that you got caught and hopefully that will deter you from ever stealing again. Like I said, if you're truly willing to listen to God, pray for forgiveness and he will lead you in the right direction.

Ask God to forgive you.. He will! That's why Jesus died on the cross.. So we could be forgiven for our sins... He will forgive you as long as you mean it and clearly you do!

Ask God for forgiveness and move on. Do more right than wrong and you'll be fine. It's good that you feel bad about it but it's been long enough. Learn and grow from that bad experience. That's why we are all here.  :)

Not really on topic. I've seen so many athiest/agnostic/religion in general posts in CC in the past few days. So I don't see why y'all keep saying "wrong group". Answer the question at hand or go on about your day if it bothers you that much. I can't stand nitpicking.

God doesn't send people to hell. Jesus Christ is proud to be seen wth you and paid for anything you ever did or will ever do. It's important that we educated ourselves on all areas of faith so we gain knowledge and understanding. Of course, we will never ever understand God but it is still important to be educated of the faith you choose to follow and live by. Does that make sense?

All you have to do is ask God to forgive you and he will. The hardest part is letting go of those things in your past that you feel bad or guilty over. You don't have to carry the weight of those sins because Christ already paid the price. He doesn't want you to carry around this guilt. Forgive yourself just as He has forgiven you and move on.   That feeling that's causing you to hold on to this guilt is Satan's way of keeping you from enjoying the blessings God has for you. He is a liar; causing you to still feel guilty for something God has already forgiven you for.

God is love. Sounds corny but it's so true. Ask God into your life and ask Him for forgiveness. I'm a Christian and I mess up daily. I try my best and thank God along the way for His guidance and for His forgiveness because I am human. We mess up and since God created us, He knows that. You need a relationship with God if you want to go to Heaven. You can be a good person all you want but if you don't know Him and have a relationship with Him, on the day of judgement, He could say "depart from me. I never knew you".
