Kids and chores
A new friend came over with her children and husband, and we really hit it off. Noon came around and we decided to make the girls a nice little picnic lunch. Welp. 😳 she saw our cleaning schedule, and my daughters name on it. Our daughter has two chores a day during the week (make her bed in the morning, and feed the pets morning and night). On Saturdays, she collects bathroom trash, dusts the house, starts the dishwasher (after I've washed breakfast dishes) and gets her clothes in the right hampers. Very simple for a six year old (almost seven) in my eyes. Anyway, she totally brought it up and we had an easy conversation about it until I asked what her children do around the house. I asked politely and didn't think it would offend her🙄 well it did. She told me she's a stay at home mother and that's HER job, her kids just need to worry about school and play. I get it though, every house is different. BUT then she proceeded to tell me that my daughters IQ will be lowered because I cloud her day with chores instead of infusing them with play and learning. At this point, I caught myself dropping my jaw. I simply responded "it takes an hour to do her chores, and it teaches her the responsibility of maintaining a clean household and schedule." Oh lord. The debate went from there. In the end, she ended up pretending to not feel well. Lol 😂 so my question is, do your kids have chores? Why? What chores? How old? Did YOU have chores as a child?
