Not the right place by I need help

I have ants! Tiny black ones.. we are living with my parents while we redo our home and they never get rid of their food and it attracts so many ants! They have started getting in my dogs food bowl! I mean they took it over! What is something safe I can use to keep them away from my dog bowl? And also keep them out of my end of the house since they won't keep their food cleaned up
