Mastitis or a Clogged Duct?

One of my breasts is SO SORE. My nipple hurts as well, it is hard and so sore with sharp pains while the breast pain extends into almost the armpit. That side of my breast is rock hard. I'm in so much pain and was thinking of going to the dr tomorrow, but was curious how the dr would differentiate between a clogged duct or if it's more?

I have mastitis now and it is no joke. Wish it for no one but it is accompanied by cold chills, high fever, body aches etc. Keep breastfeeding but don't do too much heat that will keep it engorged, rotate with cold compresses to help bring the swelling down. And call your OB, mine gave me a prescription that is helping out! Good luck!

A lot of the time, other symptoms accompany mastitis. When I had it, it was everything you described plus a fever, chills, entire body ached, etc... It was similar to having the flu plus the awful pain in my breast. Definitely continue to have baby nurse on it and try to position baby to where their bottom jaw is lined up with the hard spot while they nurse. Also, hot showers and massaging the breast helps too. Don't wait to call your doctor though! Mastitis isn't fun. I'd never wish it upon my worst enemy.

If you pump that helps relieve the pressure a little bit if it's just a blocked duct.I also purchased poke root tincture...it's suppose to help your milk release and prevent blocked ducts in the future.

Mine was similar with the pain and hard nipple. Doc thinks it was thrush, so I'm on antibiotics. But, give doc a call, they know best!
