Breastfeeding with twins?

I feel like its going to be so tough and I'll basically feel like a milk cow 24/7. Do you plan to breastfeed, and if so how do you plan to go about getting a schedule going? I'm a first time momma and preg with identical twin girls 👑👑 super excited but feeling overwhelmed about it already, lol. What is the best type of breast pump? Any tips?

My 4 month old twins are exclusively breastfed. It's extremely exhausting. I have a Medela pump in style advanced pump. Check to see if insurance would cover one for you. My breast friend twins pillow was a huge help at first when trying to nurse both at the same time. After that you figure out what works best for you. Lots of water and I have done some searches on Pinterest for foods that increase milk supply such as oatmeal. It's much easier after the first couple weeks. Breastfeeding isn't right for everyone. All that matters at the end of the day is that your babies get fed whether it be breastfed, formula, or both. Good luck!

I've successfully and happily breastfed my two singletons, but starting out can be very rough. I intend to BF my twins, but I think I am going to look up and attend my local La Leche League group for support and help. Especially if you've not done it before, I REALLY recommend finding support - a group, a friend who has done it successfully and would be good at helping you, someone in your OBGYN practice or an LC who can coach you. You're gonna want support and maybe even accountability to help you work out the kinks in the early days. Some people end up with medical issues, but most of us CAN do it, we just sometimes need help believing that early on with the exhaustion and the hormones and such!

I plan on breastfeeding my twins as well. I really hope I can! I will starting pumping soon after we come home so that they get use to a bottle before I have to go back to work but I really hope I can produce enough milk to breastfeed

I went to a breastfeeding for multiples class sponsored by the local hospital. It was very informative. I left the class feeling more prepared to for the challenge. My goal is to feed them both at the same time- at 3 am/pm, 6, 9 and 12 (at least 8 times a day). I also learned that on that schedule they will soon start to skip a night feeding and sleep longer. That information gave me more hope about making it through. But we'll see... I got to get the babies here first. 2 weeks to go!!

I tried with my twin girls .. They latched fine but the next day I got out of the hospital I ended up in the ER with an infection .. I was on strong antibiotics for 7 days and the girls couldn't breastfeed . They didn't want to latch after that . I pumped until they were 3 months and tried everything that was suggested but still didn't produce enough and had to supplement . At 3 months the girls latched again and I breastfed them for one more month but I still wasn't producing enough . It was hard to pump once I started to work and I started drying up .. The best thing to do is not stress about it .. It would be awesome if you can breastfeed but the babies turn out just fine with formula too .. You got this momma :)

My twins will be 7 weeks tomorrow and we have been breastfeeding exclusively. Things have been going pretty well!! I have two singletons that I breastfed for just over a year each so I had an idea of what I was getting myself into. I've heard lots of advice to feed them at the same time, but It just doesn't always work for me. When I try  to tandem nurse the babies don't seem to latch very well and  I spend more time getting them to stay latched than if I just would have fed them one at a time. So that's exactly what I do 95% of the time, feed one and then the other. I found it MUCH less stressful to just do one at a time. As they get older and are gaining control of their bodies, I try tandem nursing to see if we can do a better job of it. It's doable! Definitely lots of work and commitment!

I had my twins in January and I had all intentions of breastfeeding. I had trouble latching both of them while in the hospital, even with help from the lactation consultant who came by my room everyday. I wound up pumping for 3 weeks and supplementing with formula. I never made enough milk to exclusively breast feed ( but I didn't really give it too hard of a try, guess I gave up too soon)
I'm happy that my babies had 3 weeks of breast milk but I wish I could have stuck with it. It is very time consuming!!! Turns out, breastfeeding/pumping wasn't for me, but I've heard a lot of success stories with twins!! Good luck momma! Hope it works out for you!
PS-I went to a free breast feeding class at Babies R Us that was very helpful!
