Irregular periods and birth control

I read online that birth control forces your uturus to shed so it's really not a period. Is that really true. Because I have pcos and want to get pregnant in the near future and if I stop the birth control I want a baby. But I'm going to wait awhile so if I don't get a period a period in months does that mean I can't get pregnant or means it just will be harder to get pregnant
