Stepping up pressure?

I have a 2 year old to a previous partner who's barely in his sons life! My partner now is feeling the pressure stepping in and up, now, I don't expect him to be 'dad' but just support us. And it's putting a strain on the relationship because he doesn't know what to do. I'm scared if we move together his biological father will take us for custody so we're stuck . I need help!
