It hurts to poop!! Help!!

I had my baby the 19th of March vaginally, since I came out of the hospital I've been feeling constipated and now every time I try to use  number 2 it kills me. I don't know what to do. When I was in the hospital, they gave me stool softeners and I didn't take it since I came out. What should I do??
