When does the pill start working?

I started taking the pill on the first day of my period two weeks ago. When does the pill actually start protecting against pregnancy?

There should be a very clearly laid out pamphlet that came with your birth control that explains everything you need to know.

But to answer your question, the pill is effective after seven days of taking the pill correctly without missin a dose. At that point, a back up form of birth control (i.e. condom) is not absolutely necessary but that is up to your discretion.
