What is the deal?

I keep seeing posts about how people are upset, no one is buying specifically off of a registry, grandparents aren't buying big ticket items, et.c.
What happened to being grateful for any gift?  Since when is it necessary for people to gift exactly what you ask for rather than what they choose, not to mention what fits their budget?

Yeah. I appreciate the thought but when you're actually in need and you receive a million packs of baby washcloths and towels instead of the things you asked for, it can be frustrating. Keep in mind, a lot of people don't provide gift receipts and when you're broke and looking for your shower to help bring things together it can definitely get you down.

Agreed!! Having a baby is mine and my husbands financial responsibility. I appreciate any gifts I'm given but I don't expect anyone to help us out by buying things for the baby. We set a budget and will buy what we can afford within our budget. I don't know why people don't think this through before getting pregnant,

Very true! I'd feel pretty embarrassed of myself if I made a complaint about any gift that we receive for the baby. Gift buying shouldn't seem like an obligation in the first place. 😳

I am grateful for any gift. It's frustrating putting lots of time and effort researching products and putting items together on a registry only for no one to use it. I have items from $4 to $300 and I'm sure that fits in everyone's budget 😊 I'm sorry but I don't need 20 sets of receiving blankets ....With my first 6 years ago almost no one used the registry and people didn't give me any gift receipts, so I just kept them all and it was a waste because I barely used a handful of them. I gave them to friends who needed them.

I get that we should be great full no matter what, but people put things on their registry that they need and things that they leave off may be stuff that they already have or don't believe they will need. When I got married we had a ton of stuff that we didn't register for and it was either stuff we had or we didn't care for the style and it was a haste trying to return stuff. Especially when we didn't receive a gift receipt. I feel bad just refuting and would rather return for the stuff I need. That being said, we still thanked everyone just the same. There were even things that we later used that we didn't think we would since we were slow to return. I also make sure when I create my registries, that I put items on there for all price ranges. My mom even looked at my registry and said that most things in XX price range are gone so you might want to add some more. Either way, you should be great full for what you get and not show someone that you're disappointed with what they got you.

There's a saying about giving gifts. I can't remember the wording but basically, if your buying a gift for someone you should give them something you know they will want or use; not something that YOU want them to have. 
When my bff had her baby I bought off her registry because I knew those where things she wanted and would use. 
However, I know she'd have been grateful no matter what. 
It's understandable that it's frustrating but there was ways to handle it with grace and humility.

I understand being frustrated that no one buys off the registry but if that happens to us I'm planning to return/exchange certain things we get for others that we actually need. But that comes more from not wanting to have unnecessary things and not because we can't afford it.

Seriously! My husband and I bought everything we needed on our own, and we don't even earn a lot of money. I've heard of people WAITING just for their baby showers... I would understand if circumstances don't permit them to buy the things they need, but if you're going to complain about the things you didn't get from other people when it should be your responsibility in the first place, how do you expect to care for your child down the road.
