Ttc with number 1

2nd month trying to conceive and I hadn't taken ovulation tests although yesterday I had egg white stretchy discharge which was quite heavy. Although my partner is in the army so the way it worked out was we had sex on Sunday(day before discharge) and today (day after discharge) although today it was still stringy but not as heavy. Did I do the best times or should I have had sex yesterday?
