When to see OBGYN

Question

My best friend is pregnant with her first child and she is 11 weeks along , but still hasn't seen a doctor and never has, and doesn't want to she wants to just see a midwife. I don't know much since I haven't gotten pregnant yet but I feel like she should be have already been seeing a doctor . What is normal ? How can I politely tell her she needs to be healthy ? I love her and just want her and the baby to be safe :/

A lot of doctors or midwives won't let you make an appt until 12 weeks anyway. She should be looking for someone, but I wouldn't be alarmed that she hasn't seen anyone yet.

There's nothing a dr can do that early on. Usually before 13 or so weeks all the will do is do a per test and tell you to come back around 12-14 weeks. For my 3rd pregnancy with my daughter I didn't bother going in until around 12 weeks.

If she wants to see a midwife, that is licensed through the state board and is low risk that is fine. She needs to be evaluated by someone soon for sure.

I called my doctor at 5 weeks and they scheduled my first appointment for when I was 11 weeks! I told them I wanted a midwife but they said it was standar procedure to meet with an OB/GYN for the first appointment, and then all the rest would be with a midwife of my choosing.
