Should children from the U.S be adopted first?

Should children from the U.S be adopted from other Americans? Or is ok that most of the time the children that are adopted are from different countries? I always feel like the children in America are often overlooked by other Americans. I understand it's a lengthy process, but it makes me sad that so many American kids go unlooked by other Americans. Does anyone else feel this way?

Any child being adopted in the world is fine and gives a child a better life. Why would we restrict people to adopt just in the US?

As long as a child in need is getting a good home and all the love they deserve, it's fine by me. Don't matter where they're from, every child deserves a home and love.

I agree I think we have so many issues in our own back yard that we should be taking care of first. We have people on our streets starving yet we go to other countries to give what we have. It's a little mind blowing to me

The problem isn't so much that children in the US are not being adopted first, but that children of color are it being adopted. After doing a lot of research on adoption and learning from my sociology classes of all places, it seems the majority of the babies placed for adoption that stay in the system are minorities. This is because many low income, high minority areas lack proper education and access to birth control. Our government has failed these women and they have little options beyond adoption or raising a child in poverty. Most adoptive couples want a baby that looks like them, and white baby boys are in the highest demand. Adoption is expensive and while white people are definitely not the only wealthy in our country, they seem to be the most demanding and he most picky. Other people of varying race that can afford to adopt will also lean towards babies that look like them. But the lack of access to birth control continues to produce babies that not many people choose and they end up in the system. You cannot force a couple to adopt a baby they do not want simply because that baby is located in their country of residence. And while all babies deserve love,people paying upwards of $50,000+ for a child probably feel they have the right to choose any child they want, regardless of home country or race.

Realistically speaking I would love to see more of our own children being adopted to our own people, but it's nearly impossible to do so. They make it so hard for children to be adopted anyways. I believe that is why most Americans end up adopting from a different country.

I don't really think so. You can't just adopt someone, we're adopting a Syrian boy from Germany, it takes way longer then 'normal' adoptions inside the American boarders but I mean we just feel connected to him, we didnt look for adoption either it just happened.
Maybe we're going to adopt 1 or 2 kids in the future but we'll look if there are some children we would like to make ours or not. I never intended to just find a child to adopt anywhere but from America tho...
