If the technology existed, would you genetically alter your fetus?

Only for diseases. If it wouldn't cause any harm to the foetus and would get rid of a disease then why wouldn't you?

I think it would be awesome for medical purposes, not so much cosmetic. If medicine advances to the point where it becomes more accessible, why not? A lot of people have medical issues that run in their family and if we could cut those mutations out we could prevent so many people from having things like ALS, muscular dystrophies, you name it.

Of course!!! If you could guarantee the longest and healthiest life possible for your child why wouldn't you?? I wouldn't want to get all Gattica on my baby but of course I would try to eradicate any genetic predisposition to disease.

For medical reasons I would.  I cannot begin to describe how difficult it is carrying a baby and not knowing if they will make it, not knowing if you made the right choice, worrying about their quality of life, hoping the surgery they need will not cause them suffering.  It is terrifying.

I would do anything to spare my child what he will have to endure.  We don't think his issue is genetic but I can't answer no to this question having experienced this, as it would be a lie.  If I had that power and could save my child a minute of pain, I would take it.

Well the technology to pick sex, hair color, eye color, and a few other qualities already exist in public markets (this is done before the fertilized egg is placed in a female)

But physically alter a fetus, as in a 9week plus old fetus? No way. By then their genetic outline is pretty much set in stone.

I would for diseases.  Especially if I knew it was something that would cause them suffering. I mean, if something was wrong with their heart or their lungs, they'd have to have surgery for it, and that's just altering then later; why not fix it before they even have memories?
