Back Labor?

How do you know it's real labor if you have back labor? I have been having sciatic pain down my leg and my back will constantly hurt but it intensifies and makes my butt cheek hurt. I can't really tell what's going on. I'm 37 weeks and I did develop a ridiculous cold or something 2 days ago which isn't helping things.

Back labor is like having severe period cramps in your lower back.. but like the whole thing from side to side. It's really awful. It's like nothing I've ever felt before.

You'll definitely know if you're having back labor. I had back labor with my daughter, and was almost blacking out in between from it.. I had contractions that came back to back with only moments in between, I was only in labor for 2.5 hours before I went from 4cm to 5cm.

Yes it's very different from sciatic pain. The butt cheek pain is just your nerve further down, it goes down your leg to your heel. You can feel pain to the side of your feet from sciatic nerve pain. Back labor is just like cramps but only in your back and lower pelvis. It doesn't feel anything like sciatic pain which is dull and radiating. It's more like someone dropped a piano on your back.

You can try timing it to see if it's something regular. If you're worried you can call and talk to your OB :) no harm in calling.
