how to give a hickey?

for whatever reason my boyfriend is really into hickies, so I want to give him one. we're both 17 and fairly inexperienced so as embarrassing as it is I was trying to practice on the back of my hand and my arm but I couldn't get anything to happen, so I guess I'm doing something wrong. it may seem so obvious to some but how do you give a hickey? 😅
