Any CNA's? Or good ideas for a career path for a mama!

Question

I'm 12 weeks, and considering doing a CNA program next month. It's an 8 week program, so I'd hope to be able to find a job right when I'm done, or possibly wait til baby gets here to look for work. After I would continue my education and hopefully eventually become an RN. Any mamas out there do this or think it's a good idea? I've finished almost all my general education and looking for a good career to work towards while my little one is still little! Was also thinking maybe a teacher? What do all you mamas do?

Being a cna is exhausting! Usually good benefits. I wouldn't advise you to know work as a cna while pregnant, I watched my pregnant coworkers do it and believe me it's not easy. You have to do allot of strenuous activity like lifting patients and bending over. This is definitely not a job for a pregnant woman. Just something to think about

I believe every RN should have to be a CNA first...helpful hint for when you go for your RN, I would do a bachelors program for your bsn. In my area they're starting to require rn the have their bsn by 2020

With my first baby, I worked as a CNA up until I was 36/37 weeks :) I loved being a CNA! Very rewarding job! Now I take my daughter in and visit the residents that I once took care of!

Being a CNA is horrible! You wipe poop all day every day. Ughhhh I hate it!!!!!

My sister is a CNA only thing that sucks about this is the work schedule.. She worked 12 hour shifts and she never saw her daughter. She hated it. I'm in the dental field. I prefer that so much better! Holidays off, weekends & shorter days 😉 but for a CNA you work regardless of the day and time.

I'm a CNA it's a great idea if you are planning on becoming an RN that way you have great experience and will know right away after working if you really want to be a nurse or not! Pays not terrible either if you find the right job! I made 16.50 an hour at a hospital I worked at.

It is definitely a good foundation if you want to be an RN. I'm almost 15 weeks and going to start working as a cna in home health. Some agencies will give you patients that need help with limited things like meal prep and light cleaning, as well as offering short shifts. This is what I'm going to be doing until after my baby is born, the agency that I have an interview with has you work at least one day a week and support my full time school schedule. But as far as working In a facility or hospital, it will most likely suck. I'm in an LVN program right now and my clinical rotations start soon which I am pretty anxious about. But a few of the women in my class have said they worked as cna's throughout their entire pregnancies. Comfortable? No. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Even if you get your certificate you can maybe start after the baby is born if you are experiencing too much discomfort.

I'm a medical assistant and am a health aide for a school district. I am going to school this summer to become an EMT. I will still keep my job with the school, I just want to further my education so it will benefit myself and my school district. I personally wouldn't want to do CNA work while pregnant because all of the lifting and bathing and changing of bed pans. It's strenuous and the smells can really irritate your pregnant senses. Just my opinion though.

I am a pregnant CNA and it is hard especially me being 35 weeks pregnant. Its stressful but very rewarding still. The work is hard...lifting, pushing & pulling things really pregnant woman shouldn't be doing but I LOVE it and refuse to stop until I give birth. And then in August I start a LPN program to from being a FT mom, to working PT and going to school FT is going to be difficult. So take it one step at a time, because CNA class in general can be a little stressful. Good luck.

Yes my mom was a CNA and it's a really exhausting job. Before I became a mom I worked as a Phlebotomist/Lab assistant and I loved it ! The program isn't too long for it either!
