Placenta Previa?

I am not currently pregnant, but my brothers girlfriend is expecting a boy.and due in September. She just had a baby girl April of 2015 too!  
Anyways, I was talking to my mother and she told me while my brother was out on the tractor, his girlfriend called him to say she was bleeding. My mom was with him at the time (she took my nephew and niece out to see him) and he asked her to take his girlfriend to the er because he couldn't leave. 
They finally found out she has placenta previa, I googled it but couldn't get a very clear answer, I am just wondering how serious it is. How big is the chance of losing the baby? I'm very concerned and want to know how I can help. I do live an hour away but she knows I would leave at any time to come help her.

I had that with my twins No sex for the rest of the pregnancy ! Atleast that's what i was told . And will most likely end with csection.

I have never had it myself, but a close friend did.  From my understanding it is when the placenta is in part or completely over the cervix.   As my friends pregnancy progressed the placenta grew and completely covered her cervix.   She had spotting/light bleeding for the last several weeks of her pregnancy, and was visiting the dr often for checkups.  She wound up having a scheduled c-section because placenta was preventing the baby from entering the birth canal.

I have it....i have accessory lobe(extra piece of placenta) and that extra is partially sitting on my cervix. In most cases if it is partial, it goes up as the pregnancy goes and you will have no problems. And if it doesnt she will get c-section, i will most likely have c-section around 36-37 weeks because doc said since its not main placenta that is sitting low, i have very little chance that the little piece will move. I will have another ultrasound at 30 weeks to see how everything goes.
Until it moves up she should avoid any kind of physical activity. My doctor said walking is fine but no gym, running, sex. She is now allowed to stick anything up her vag or have orgasms since that can cause contractions and those could cause bleeding and she doesnt want it to erupt. Oh and no heavier lifting than a milk jar. Other than that she should be fine as long as she takes it really easy. I know its a pain in the butt but my doc said it is fairly common these days if you have had kids before, previous c-section or are over 35. So they deal with those a lot. With any leaky fluids or bleeding, she should go straight to hospital though to get it checked out.
