Can someone please help me

So I started my period last Monday. The eighteenth and I am currently still on it. I've never had a period that has lasted long than 7 days. My period averages to about 6-7 days. I'm freaking out and don't know what to do. I told my mom and she said she would make an appointment. But can anyone tell me why or how this is happening?
