Married Bank Accounts - Need Advice
The other day my boyfriend & I were discussing finances after marriage & he said we would have two separate bank accounts. I completely disagreed because I feel like that's a serious trust issue and a marital problem, if you can't share money with your life partner. I offered the idea of us having one save account that we have to consult each other with and agree upon before withdrawing a single dollar, and then separate spend accounts that we could still keep each other informed about on major purchases. But like fast food, grocery shopping, and all the typical shopping we could do on our own. He still didn't like that idea and decided he's going to want separate accounts. I guess what I'm curious about is this normal? Or even healthy for a marriage? It feels wrong, but every once in a while I sometimes think HE'S the one with the spending problem. So maybe he knows I'll save more? Or thinks I won't save enough? What do you married ladies have in place financially and how do you feel about those options?
