How long are you taking off for baby?

I'm due Sept. 7th and about to start a new job but don't know how long is acceptable to ask off  unpaid for the baby. This is my first child. How long do you think is acceptable or how long are you taking?

I'm takin a full year. My employer pays 75% of my wage for 6 months then I get unemployment insurance for the remaining 6. Our government is hoping to pass legislation to extend maternity/parental leave to 18 months since most day care here in Canada won't take kids until they're 18 months anyway.

I second the 6 weeks, I remember a friend telling me that by law she had to take that amount of time off after (and it was 10 weeks if she ended up with a c/s). I'm personally planning on 9 since I think that's how much I have in paid time.

Generally if you get time off it's 6-8 weeks  (6 for vaginal delivery 8 for cesarean)

They say any where from 6 weeks to three months should be acceptable , three months I'm assuming if there were any complications. I wanna take 6 weeks once the baby is born , don't know if I will be comfortable enough to the last two weeks of being pregnant since I am on my feet majority of day for 10 hr days

FMLA should cover you for 12 weeks but I think most places you have to wait a year to qualify.

Since you're just starting your job you're not covered under FMLA (I'm assuming you live in the U.S.) So I would speak with your boss or HR about how much time off they're willing to give you in order for you to keep your job since they're not obligated to give you protected leave. But if I were you I'd want at least 6 weeks at home with baby!

I'm taking 4 months...I can't even imagine going back to work after 6 weeks! But I would AT LEAST take the 6 weeks if your work allows to let your body heal!

Same boat, i would like to go back after 6 weeks 3 months max. Searching for child care/help from family now so i can make that happen. I did a year after my first and i was running back to work.

We only get 4 weeks for vaginal and 6 weeks for c-section which we get paid 60%of our total income for those weeks 😝from our short term disability plan...then the rest is up to u and what u have in ur earned time bank if you want to get paid...which I'm hoping to have 3 months total come the end of September...no vaca for me this summer need to save every hr!!!
