Boyfriend is addicted to his phone?

I'm 18 and my boyfriend is 21. Every time I'm with him (or not), he's on his phone the whole time. When I'm not with him, he's ignoring me and posting on Facebook/Twitter. He mostly just argues with people about sports on those platforms and it's so annoying. I've tried to get through to him so many times and he just doesn't listen. I've cried about it multiple times and he says "okay I'll stop" but he doesn't. He doesn't even try. The other night, he went to bed early (he had finals) and I stayed up with his two friends/roommates and I talked to them about it. My boyfriend overheard me and is now extremely pissed at me for "talking shit" on him. We weren't talking shit at all, we were just discussing what I should do about the situation. They said that I should break up with him or take a break for a while to show him that I'm not kidding about ignoring me. What should I do?

I would just say "hey, you say you'll stop and then you don't, I want to see real change or we will have issues." And honestly, he won't do it unless HE wants to. Not YOU wanting HIM to. He needs to want to pay attention to you. I wouldn't want a man that doesn't pay attention To me. Especially when I'm with him. But that's just me

My boyfriend does the same thing, not to that extreme, but he constantly is on his phone all the time. Even when I'm trying to have a serious conversation, and if he's just going pee, he won't leave his phone out of his sight, it's really frustrating. I harp on him about it, and sometimes if he's really pissing me off with it, I take his phone away and hide it 😂 but honestly that just pisses him off, so not really sure what will work. I personally wouldn't leave him or dump him over it, I would just maybe give him an ultimatum.. Hold out on him every time he ignores you for his phone, or just try different things to try and get the point across. If he still doesn't get the hint, then maybe considering telling him you want to take a break. If he thinks his phone/twitter/Facebook is more important that his time with you after confronting him about it, then that's probably not the person you want to be with. My situation isn't that extreme, but I completely understand how frustrating it can be. And just flat out rude! Oh if he is on his phone around your family, you should tell them to call him out on it, maybe have one of your parents tell him how rude he's being by being on his phone while with company.. Just try different things

He doesn't sound like all that great of a guy. How badly do you want to stay with him? If you break up with him you have to be prepared not to have him back. Idk babe I don't like the sound of this guy
