Single mom by choice?

What are your views and/or opinions on becoming a single mom by choice. I'd love to hear it all! Pros and cons!

A coworker of mine had a daugher via sperm bank. She's an excellent mother, was just unlucky in love. Her daugther is 5 and they are a wonderful happy family. She's self sufficient and doesn't date, she's just so happy to be mom. I'd consider doing the same if I wasn't lucky enough to finally find my husband and become pregnant in my midthirties. To many women I know being a mom is more rewarding than being a wife. Why wouldn't people be anything but happy for women who make this same choice!?

As long as you are stable, able to provide and fully understand what you are getting into and still want to do it, go for it. It wouldn't be my first choice but if it works for you, thats awesome!

I am that woman!  I'm 38 and I am seeking conception via donor and fertility treatment as soon as my doctors give me the go ahead. Just because life had been tough for me now there is a population of women who actually believe that my circumstances should dictate whether I am worthy of fulfilling my long dream of being a mommy!!! Outrageous and ignorant!!!!

I think it's a very brave and independent thing to do, and I admire all single moms for the incredible amount of work they do

That's what I was going to do if I didn't get married or have children and wasn't in a serious relationship by 25

If I'm 30, no kids, then I'm definitely doing sperm donor.

WHY?! is my only question. If no relationship problems, why choose to be a "single" mom? It is stupid. My goal is NOT to have my child(ren) wonder whose house they will be at for holidays or birthdays.

And a side note to go with it....if you get child support, government assistance, and baby dady is in the picture for visitation, you arent doing it on your own.

Not for me but if a woman feels she can do it than more power to her! As long as she and the kids are happy I couldn't care less.
