Did you know that going outside with wet hair in the cold will NOT make you sick?

Just figured I'd share this since many people are taught that going outside in the cold with wet hair will make them sick! The temperature of the outdoors will not make you sick!

I'm pretty sure I get a cold whenever I go outside with wet hair or even sleep with wet hair. Coincidence?

The cold itself won't make you sick. However, it will lower your immune system and make you more susceptible to illness.
In extreme cases, people can die from overexposure/hypothermia/frostbite/etc.  You're better off wearing a coat anyways.

Yeh they say cold and flu are viruses and can only be contracted by coming into contact with them but i doubt it because i literally get sick from my ac and also sleeping with wet hair this i am certain of

Yup! My husbands grandmother drove me crazy telling us our daughter needed to wear socks when walking on the tile floor or she would get sick.. I'm like no lady that's not how viruses work.

I had to fight the urge to roll my eyes at the nurse we saw at my 3 month olds appointment the other day who told me that she needs to wear a bib because he drool on her chest will make her get a cold....

True. You're actually more likely to get sick during colder times because more people huddle together in the same house for longer periods, increasing exposure to all our favorite little germ buddies...

I went out with wet hair because my lazy ass didn't blow dry when I was in school and I would have ice in it.

Omg you would lose your mind it you had my MIL. She is old school Italian and thinks you get a cold from not wearing socks on tile floors and wraps my daughter in blankets before going to the car. We go home with blankets every visit. I swear she buying blanket just for us. Bless her heart. Lol

Yep. It annoys the hell out of me when people say you catch cold from getting cold. You don't, the initial symptoms of a cold are feeling cold, so you think that you've let yourself get too cold and then caught cold. It's a virus, in order to contact it you need to come in contact with it.

You have to be exposed to the cold virus in order to catch a cold. If you have wet hair and aren't exposed you won't catch a cold.
If exposed you are more likely to catch the virus in winter though (wet hair is still irrelevant) but that's because of the reduced humidity drying out nasal passages thus making it easier for cold virus to get into your system.
