I've been seeing A LOT of ignorant comnents about suicide recently so I just want to set the record straight
I have attempted suicide countless times so I have experience with it first hand. Now, I have read so many ignorant comments on this app recently on posts where the OP is feeling suicidal. I am disgusted by the amount of comments saying "You're just attention seeking, if you were really going to do it, you would just do it."
That is complete BS. There were so many times that I was suicidal and I was so desperate for people to convince me not to do it that I would post things like that online to see if anyone would actually care.
I had this girl message me saying that I couldnt truly be suicidal because everyone would see it coming. And if I was really suicidal I would be hiding it. You know what that did? It made me want to kill myself even more. I wanted to prove her wrong. I felt so invalidated, I felt pathetic.
Now, heres the kinds of things you should say to someone who is suicidal:
"It'll be okay, please get help."
"You are worth so much more than you feel right now."
"If you need to talk to someone, I'm here." Etc. You should ALWAYS take someone who is suicidal seriously. If you shrug them off and just call them attention seekers and they actually succeed in killing themselves, the blame is partially on you for not trying to help.
In a way, it is attention seeking, but its not how you all see it. Its a cry for help, not "boohoo look at me, I'm sad."
