LARPing?

I have to admit I know practically nothing about LARP (live action role playing) but I'm curious. It seems like it's just a way to escape reality and pretend you are someone else? I saw some pics posted by a Facebook friend who's into it. Any one on here participate? Why do you enjoy it? Or do you find it a bit odd? How come? Just trying to learn here!

I have friends who do it. Every year there's a big pirate/ Renaissance fest. They have to remain in character the whole weekend. Sleeping in tents, no electronics, hundreds of dollars spent making their costumes. It's cool.

It's nice to escape reality and just play for a while. You can get that with video games too but it's not face-to-face like LARP is.

I know people who do it but I also don't know much about it. The people I know used to do civil war reenactments in college, so I guess there's a similarity there.

Never done larping but I've seen it! At the park we go there's a group that larps and my 9yyr old daughter loves it! She's into wizards 101, Doctor Who, and other things and says she wants to LARP lol
