IUD to the Pill. HELP!!

Last week I had my IUD removed after having it for two years (note: I do not have children). I started taking the pill (levlen) the same day as it was removed. It's been 8 days and I'm starting to find heavy spotting when I go to the toilet. I've started from the very beginning of the blister pack and I'm no where near the sugar tablets. Has anyone else experienced this before? I haven't had a proper period in a very long time, almost over a year and a half and I'm not sure if this is necessarily normal.
