To me I don't think its so much about being broke but paying for what you ate. If you ate/drank 20$ worth of food why should you have to pay up for the person who ate/drank $70 . idk that's just me though.

What do you all think ?

I totally agree with this. I just went to a birthday dinner. One lady ordered over $80 worth of food and drinks for herself, but only offered $20 talking about she broke.

Yeah groups should always pay for themselves unless it was super equal or it was shared dishes/drinks. I have a friend who doesn't drink and he used to constantly end up paying for bottles of wine and stuff when he went out with this one group of friends.

Omg yes I hate this. We had a group dinner for my sisters birthday and many people left just throwing out $20 each when everyone's meal and drink was over $20. I hate group bills, it never comes out equally and a lot of people take advantage.

I usually put in enough for mine, plus tax and tip, and then enough to cover whoever a bday it is.

Everyone should pay for themselves unless it was a home party, or a catered event. If you go to a restrurant even for a party, you pay for what you ate/drank. It's only fair.

Tbh I think in groups situations you should just split the bill I know some people may drink more or order wine and some people may not but to me it's just social manners to split the bill especially if there is like 20 plus people fair enough if there is only a handful of people. Plus you'll find the people who knew they drink more out extra in anyways but i hate it when people start getting there phones out and calculating what they ate and drank

See I don't mind just rounding up if everyone has spent a similar amount. It kills me when my SIL whacks out her calculator to work out to the penny what everyone owes. Kills me. Sorry I don't know why, it just makes me cringe!

I like that back home (Canada) if you ask at a restaurant they'll split bills for a party so each person or couple gets their own.  I live in the UK now where it doesn't seem to be the done thing - I've been out with groups where most of them had really expensive meals and alcoholic drinks while I had a salad and soft drink, then they just want to divide the bill by the number present so after a £20 meal I'm told my 'share' is £70.  I could afford steak and a bottle of wine if I wanted it, but don't see why I should subsidise someone else's meal and drinks.

Oh man, when we were in vietnam there were about 10 of us, we'd have a 3 course meal, all drinking all night loads of sides, everything, and the bill would be like £1.50 each and this ONE GIRL would always be like actually I didn't have any (insert side dish here) so I should only pay £1.30. ARE YOU KIDDING?
