Is school worth it?

Just wanna get some opinions here. Not meant to put anybody down. Do you think a college degree is really worth it in the long run? Do you think you really need a college degree to get anywhere in life? Why or why not? I only ask because I'm really trying to decide. I currently am a nursing assistant and while it's not a glorious job, it does pay decent money and the longer I do it, the more I make. So I'm just curious to see what others say.

I think a college degree is worth it for some people. Not everyone needs a degree to live a happy & fulfilling life.

It depends on what you want to do. If the career you are going for does not require a college degree, I wouldn't go. If that career doesn't require it, then you are not going to make any more money. So the way I look at it is: if it's not going to further my career and get me more money, then I'm not going waste time and money on it. However if what you want to do requires it, then you definitely have to go. I went to a trade school for massage therapy, and got my license, not college and that was the best decision I ever made.

I definitely do! But I went on to get a master's and PhD so I'm probably biased here. I know many people who don't have college degrees and most of them are doing unskilled work that doesn't pay well. Most, not all. I work for a huge, multi-national company now and you actually can't get promoted past a certain level unless you hold a master's degree.

College is expensive, especially in the US (I'm making an assumption here, I didn't look at your profile). But you might be eligible for scholarships and there are ways to keep the cost down (like going to a college in your state). There are also companies that will pay for or at least contribute to your degree, if it's related to the work. I only paid for 25% of my master's and didn't pay for any of my PhD.

In today's world u need a degree to get somewhere (unless u want to be a business owner, hairstylist, etc). 99% of places would prefer someone with extra schooling

College is worth the expense and the work.  The degree is a good insurance policy. As much as a lot of people can have wonderfully successful careers,  that stupid piece of paper that says you know what you are doing opens doors.  Having a college degree doesn't make one smarter,  nor does it guarantee that you are a subject matter expert. But it will tell a prospective employer that you have the discipline to complete your degree.

There are professions that do not require a degree.  If you can see yourself make a career of it,  it may not be worth the time or effort.  But make sure that your next position will not require a degree.

College is only good when you go for something that is actually going to get you somewhere. STEM programs are the best to get into, because you'll always be able to find a job and they're in high demand. If you go for art, etc. it's a waste of money and time. Sorry, not sorry.

I feel a high school certificate or GCSEs skate important but at the same time I don't entirely think that grades should determine who and what you want to be.  Some of the most wealthy successful people in the world are high school drop outs

The only reason I got my associates and paralegal certificate was because I was waiting for my REAL accomplishment- becoming a mother. That is what is important to me. I was a paralegal for the world's largest quick service restaurant and quit and did not look back upon getting pregnant. There were other women in legal, much higher up, that were attorneys and heads of their own departments. Our priorities were different, that's all.

To me, nah. If you're career doesn't need it, why get it? Unless it would directly affect your career choice, don't waste your time or money.
