How much money saved up before baby??

I'll have $10,000 saved up ideally by the time baby gets here and I'm wondering if that's a good number. If I'm living frugally, I'd say my expenses per month are around $1,200. I don't want my safety net of money to dip too low so at what point should I return to work? Also, how much will my monthly expenses rise with baby?
