Beginner questions!

Hey ladies I'm going to be going on the pill because of my really painful periods and I was just wondering if the hormones in it would make me act unlike myself or effect my mood in anyway whatsoever. I also heard that it can lower sex drive,are any of these things true? Please help lol thank you!
