Period on the pill

This month I skipped my sugar pills because I wanted to skip my period because my boyfriend was coming into town and we were on vacation. I started my period a week later than I usually would have and I never took the placebo pills and it's been 7 days and still going strong. It's usually never lasts over 5. Wondering what is going on and if this has happened to anyone else.
