Bringing a date to a wedding?

What's the story with inviting someone as your date to a wedding? I'm 20, and talking to a guy who doesn't know the couple getting married. But from what I know of weddings as an adult, generally you bring a date? So do I ask him to come? Or will it be too awkward since we aren't dating?

You only get to bring a date if the invite says so. If it is you plus guest then it's completely up to you and whether or not you want to!

You need to make sure you can have a plus one and that the plus one will come. This pissed me off at my wedding. Single ppl were trying to bring friends, cousins, sisters and etc to my wedding. Some didn't even show which cost me money.

Check your invitation, it will tell you if you can have a plus +1, if not then no you shouldn't bring a date because the bride and groom are only inviting you. If you're still not sure, ask the bride and groom beforehand. Please do not show up at their wedding with your date if you were not asked to or if you were unsure. The couple will not account for your plus +1 and therefore might not seating or even a meal for them and if they do, it'll cost them extra.

If the invite doesn't have a clear "plus 1" ask the bride.  Especially with the economy is not always welcome/expected to bring a date unless you're married or have been dating a while.  They may have considered you as only 1 person in the count for food and seating if you don't have a long-time boyfriend.
The bride will appreciate you asking vs assuming.  :)

You can tell by your invitation. Did it say you and plus one or did it say you? If they didn't give you an option to say write an amount of people attending assume you are only being invited...

Remember, the bride and groom have to pay for every plate and plan for every seat. Before you ask him to be your plus one, make sure that's even an option first. If so, simply ask him if he would like to be your date.

My husband and i had only been dating less than a year and him and his grandma were invited to a family members wedding and i told my husband that i would stay behind abd him and his gma said thats nonsense you are going they already know about you and are expecting you we ended up making that trip into our first vaca and did a road trip there and back along with sight seeing

I wouldn't bring someone that you're just talking to or haven't been with long. It's meant to be the most special day of their lives and I wouldn't want a complete stranger there. Maybe ask them as a courtesy.
