Was Baby #2 bigger or smaller at Birth than Baby #1?

Question

Son #1 was 8lbs, 4oz but dropped down to 7 pounds within a week. Everyone told us not to get many newborn diapers/clothes.  He was in newborn for more than a month! I want to be prepared for Son #2 but don't want to waste money.
