Can't find the opening of cervix?

Question

I'm 40 weeks on Monday, in just 5 days. I was checked by my midwife today for the first time. She said she couldn't find the opening of the cervix, but the cervix was pretty soft. 
What does this mean? If she can't find the opening, does that mean it's closed up tight?
Baby is dropping a LOT! She's really low and getting lower.

Having a tilted or posterior cervix is generally not too big of an issue. It may make checking your dialation tricky but once u enter labor the cervix could rotate down to anterior position and you'll be set. I've known many women who have delivered vaginally with either a rotated uterus or cervix. Your body knows what to do when it's time. Don't let them cut you just because of this issue.

It's probably so far back behind baby's head that she couldn't get her fingers in far enough to feel the opening. I had an exam today, and that's what my issue was. Baby is at station 0 (so head is low in pelvis)and cervix is behind his head. The lady who checked my cervix today didn't have long enough fingers to get a good feel, and didn't want to stir things up trying to reach (I'm 35 weeks) When I was checked on Sunday he was at -1 station, so they were able to reach my cervix and tell me I'm 2-3cm dilated, and 75% effaced. The more dilated/effaced you become the farther forward your cervix will become under baby's head giving more informative exams. It is more challenging finding a posterior cervix when baby's head is low in pelvis. Congrats on your baby! Hope the peanut decides to come soon :)
