Was I right?!
My best friend is having a baby in July. We're very excited because I have an almost 9 month old son and they will be close in age. We talked about me planning and throwing her baby shower right from the beginning. At her older son's birthday party in March I spoke to a few of her friends about helping me to plan the shower- I thought she'd want everyone involved. They basically told me that a friend of my best friend's is already having the shower. "She hasn't involved you?" They asked. No, she hadn't. But I wasn't upset, I have enough going on with an infant of my own. She and I aren't friends but have always gotten along fine when at group events, etc... I mentioned to her before leaving that if she needed any help to let me know. About a month ago, after the invitations had all gone out, my best friend told me she had found out I wasn't included in her shower and it bothered her. "I specifically told Courtney to include you", she said. I assured her it was no big deal. So... Over the weekend I got a text from Courtney, and I kid you not, this is what it said "Hey, I was just wondering if you'd be able to go in on the cost of the prizes everyone will be getting from the games? If we split it in half it will be $60 each".... Am I wrong to thing that's absolutely outrageous?? I love my best friend and have been there for her, giving her hand me downs from my son, bought her an amazing gift, baked a dessert for the shower. But if I haven't been included at all in planning her shower, why would I help Courtney pay for it? Isn't it outrageous that she would even ask?? I politely explained why I didn't feel that I should do that and told her to let me know if she needed any help setting up. I feel terrible now, because that's just the way I am. Should I have just paid her the $60? Or am I right for refusing? Tell me the truth!
