What am I to do?

Question

So my week old baby doesnt like laying on his back...we either have to put him in his boppy or hold him...I think its bc his grandma holds him the entire time shes with him. What are we to do. Im trying to let him cry it out but I feel like thats not working. He was asleep in my arms for 30 min and as soon as I put him down in his pack and play he started crying. So far hes been crying for 20 min.

Its amazing...hes been asleep laying on his back for 40 min now....longest hes done today...have him a swaddled blanket and swaddled him again in a receiving blanket... right now im holding my breath everytime he moves hoping that he stays asleep....

This breaks my heart. Please do not do cry it out for a newborn (and in my personal opinion, ever). Most doctors say to avoid it until 6 months and some few even say not to do it before one year old. Newborns need you so much. You are all they know. They need your comfort and reassurance. It is totally normal for a baby this young to not want to sleep without being held. They are used to being "held" in your belly and were constantly being rocked with your movements. I know how hard it is. I questioned motherhood so many times in the early days, but I survived and you will too. My son is now 4 months and life is much more manageable. Snuggle that baby! This actually encourages baby to become more independent eventually because they feel safe and secure. You cannot spoil a newborn. They are meant to be held, snuggled, rocked, etc. It will get better with time. Good luck!

You should try the rock n play sleeper. They are miracle workers!

You can't do cry it out that young. 4 months is the minimum. Could you put the boppy in the pack n play and let baby sleep there?

Read "the happiest baby on the block". It is a super helpful book on soothing a baby. At a week old, there is no such thing as holding a baby too much. Think about where that baby was a week ago. It was snuggled up warm and cozy in your womb with the calming sound of your heartbeat. The first three months the baby is here is the fourth trimester. When you need to get stuff done, use a wrap like a moby or a boba. My baby loved that!  She would sleep in there for hours! Good luck! Being a mom is hard but rewarding!!

My daughter's doc said until about 2 months, you should not let you baby just cry. This is the time they need you the most. Besides they were in u for 9 months,  so they are used to the closeness. I say enjoy these times now holding and cuddling you baby. They grow fast and you will miss it

You can't let a newborn cry it out. They have no capacity to self sooth. You'll just have to keep at it until something works. Don't leave him unsupervised on a boppy though. It's not safe.

This is just my opinion but a week is too young to start the cry it out method.. At that age a baby isn't going to cry just to cry, if they're crying its for a reason! Definitely exhausting when you can't figure out what the reason is though
