What would you do?

Ok I have on laws that live an hour away, and when the baby is born i refuse to left him go that far away from me so soon. The DH is upset that it's not fair and that he will start treating my parents like that if that's how I'm going to be. Um I'm sorry no one would send a newborn that far just after birth. Or would you? FYI my parents live a mile away. If they lived an hour he wouldn't go to them either. I'm sorry

A newborn shouldn't go anywhere! An hour isn't that far - his parents can come visit you, no reason for you to go see them right after giving birth.

I don't agree with having a newborn leave the house. If his parents want to see the baby they can come to your house. I honestly believe that the baby should not leave the house unless it's for a doctors appointment. This is just me. I have 2 boys and I didn't take them out until they were almost 3 months old. My husbands family and my family would come over on the weekends and spend the day with us and the baby.

If you are asking for the baby to go stay there alone heck no! Not that early. I'd say not till its 4 months. I'd welcome them to come stay at your house and baby sit the baby there and you two can go have dinner or something. It's hard with in-laws because at the end of the day your mom is your #1 and no matter how much you love your MIL it's not the same. However don't leave them out or discredit them. It isn't fair for your husbands parents not to be involved and trust me I've had these same issues not because I don't love them it's just different. At the end of the day I realized getting closer to them made life a lot happier.

Dissenting opinion, here.

My parents live an hour and a half away, I have no hesitation at all about taking my newborn to spend time with them, and I have no hesitation about my husband taking his newborn to spend time with his parents an hour in the other direction, either. The only condition is that I'm either there to feed, or a bottle goes with if I'm not.

The way I see it, your in-laws raised your partner from when he was a newborn and you obviously think they did an okay job with him, otherwise you wouldn't be having a baby with him, so why would your baby be treated any different? Not sure what the problem is.
