How to get over a breakup with the person you love??

My boyfriend and I just recently brok up because he couldn't handle the long distance. From the moment I met him I knew I loved him and he reciprocated the feelings. Things were going well with us and I just got back from visiting him and so when he said he wanted to break up, it was as if my heart shattered. I'm not a very emotional person and the last time I truly cried was when I lose my brother. But when he gave up I lost it, he said he'd always be here and that he'd always love me and I know that he can't handle the distance because he needs to focus on his own life at the moment but it's still not easy to deal with.
