Copper IUD insertion

At the end of the month I'll be getting a copper iud insertion and I was wondering how much it will hurt. The doctor gave me some meds to take beforehand since I've never been pregnant, but I'm curious to know how other experiences have been with this method of contraception because I read mostly about the medicated IUDs and not so much about the copper. Also, would I still need to use a condom?
