Should i say something?

This topic is very hard for me but i would like some advice. I work next to a Somalian man. I dont know anything about somalia culture but i have been told by somalians that they DO NOT use deodorant. I honestly believe it because of the armpit smell most of them have. I HAVE to be next to him since we work in a turkey production plant but i am very sensitive and get grossed out by bad personal hygene. I cant stand his smell. So should i tell him that his poor hygene is killing me or bring it up to someone bigger? Since they say no deodorant is a cultural thing i dont want to offend any somalian but im honestly im ready to hang myself. HELP

I've worked with Somalians and they used deodorant and didn't have B.O. issues, so I'm not sure it's a cultural thing, it may just be a him thing. Anyway I would say something to a supervisor and see if they can give a meeting about personal hygiene. Personal hygiene is so important when working around food, so a supervisor would have to take that into account. Good luck!

Voice your dilemma to a supervisor. Either they'll address his hygiene, move you to another position. That's a hostile working environment! 😷

I'd suggest you speak to a supervisor. He might start feeling awkward and insecure about himself. With regards to the cultural thing, I have a lot of Somali friends and family members and I've never heard of such a thing to be honest. I'm surprised something like this exists.

I would say something to a supervisor if I was you. I also work in food production and we actually have rules in our handbook about personal hygiene, it's obviously important when working around food. So I'm sure they would have to address him. As far as it being a cultural thing, that I have no idea about, but I wouldn't really wanna say something directly to him just in case it was, I wouldn't wanna hurt his feelings. Good luck!

Ask a supervisor to blanket talk about personal hygiene & see if that helps. =)

Personally, i would bring it to someone higher and explain that you dont want to offend the man or his beliefs, but its preventing you from working to the best of your abilities. Id tell the higher person to leave your name out of it, that way theres no workplace drama.
