Not dilated at all & 50% effaced-help to dilate?

I'm scheduled to be induced next Sunday, July 17th.  They said it would be good if I were a bit dilated before coming in.  She mentioned walking and sex but here's where I'm confused- do I start that now the weekend before or a few days before the 17th?  I just don't all of a sudden want to go into labor if I can go in as planned on the 17th- will sex and walking cause labor to happen earlier?  FTM here.  Any suggestions and info would be appreciated. 😊
