Second Date Blues

So last night I went on a second date with a guy, but I'm not entirely sure how it went. I told him I wanted to see him again, and he seemed lukewarm about the idea. He did not kiss me goodnight either. However, I texted him later that evening and he seemed a little more enthused about seeing me again and explained that he had a lot going through his mind. I guess I'm just wondering....is he just being polite, or does he really want to see me again?
