Scared

My fiancé has a 3yr old son from a previous marriage. The little boy is wonderful and I completely adore him but he isn't the problem. My fiancé and his ex wife get along fairly well, same with me and her. The four of us are learning to co-parent pretty well until the 4th of July. My fiancé has visitation every other weekend, we are going to court to get 50/50

We got his son on the evening of the 1st (Friday) and had him until the evening of the 4th (Monday). We had a great weekend, went to a 4th party on Saturday and just kind of hung out the rest of the weekend. Well Tuesday the 5th, my fiancé gets a call from the ex asking what happened to the boys feet, claiming there were bruises all over the bottoms and he was crying they hurt. We told her he was fine when we dropped him off on Monday evening, that he does wall very hard around the house and outside. They hung up and next thing we know my fiancé is getting a call from the police, they have a protective order from the ex, saying she is afraid for her and their sons live. She ended up taking him to the ER and getting him checked out. So we called our lawyer and told her everything. She told us to just follow the protective order and to go to court on Friday the 15th. We emailed the lawyer this morning to figure out if the lawyer or the pa would be attending on Friday with us, she comes back saying neither of them can attend and that she is making calls to try and help us find someone to help us that since there are criminal components in the case and that we should request a postponement. 

I'm just confused as hell about why she didn't tell us all this on Tuesday when we got served with the protective order and we explained everything. 

I have no idea who to contract to help us, we really don't want a postponement since that would mean we wouldn't be able to see his son this weekend. I'm just beyond angry and frustrated with the lawyer and his ex.
