Should the trans community be part of the LGB community?

At lunch a few days back, I was talking to some friends, some of which are in the LGBTQ community. One of my friends said she wished the transgender and queer community was seperate from the lesbian/gay/bisexual community because it "confused straight cis people". She thought it confused them because part of the community was identified by their sexuality, and the other by their gender, and she was tired of people getting that confused. What are your thoughts, as a part of or not as a part of the community?

As a cisgender lesbian, I will stand by my trans and genderqueer friends and allies. I will never "drop the T". We owe them or continued respect, acceptance, and love, until all of our battles are won.

I'm sure most people don't put too much thought into it. The ones that are confused or the ones that just don't listen or don't care enough to know the difference. Or just older in age haha but over all the vast majority of people I'm sure know the difference

Transgender people and people who identify as Queer shouldn't be kicked out of a movement just because there are CisHet people who refuse to educate themselves.

I think there is more power and more ability to lobby/advocate for change as a single entity although it may have some drawbacks as well. If it were splintered off into subgroups I think it would be harder to gain traction to push important legislative changes forward.

They have my support regardless. The LGBT+ community accepts people regardless of their gender or sexual orientation. And that's what really matters, right?
