Question

I got a puppy a month ago. Been working on potty training him. He sleeps in the perfect sized crate, and he use to wake up and whine so I would take him out to potty. No accidents, no problems.... Well now, he won't whine during the night, he just pees in his cage. How can I prevent him from peeing in it? He's 11 weeks.

I'm a schutzhund trainer, I train GSD's and I breed weimeraners so I have been through that a lot! The best thing to do it make a schedule and stick to it. Take them out immediately to potty in the morning. Do not play and be sweet with him until after he potties where you ask him to go. Also, if his crate is too big, they will pee in it. You can get a separator to put in the crate and make it smaller. He should have room to turn atound and lay down and that's it because the crate is not where he lives, it's where he sleeps. It may look small but it will teach him to hold his potty. Dogs will never potty in their den unless there's enough room to pee in one spot and then sleep on another. So definitely try to fix the too much space problem and reward him after he potties outside. I always bring my pups treats with me so when they go potty in the right spot they know they did a good job and I'm happy with them, then we go eat breakfast and then they get to play before training. Potty training and crate training take time so be patient. Are you sure he's feeling okay? If he's sleeping in it or something like that it should definitely be a concern. Otherwise I'd say it's completely normal to not be 100% trained at only 11 weeks. Just be patient and most importantly consistent.

Cut off his drinking & eating at least 2 hours before u go to bed.  Take him potty right before you go to bed then again as soon as you get up.  Just keep on trying to work with this. He'll get there

At 11 weeks they can only hold it for 2 hours. 3 at the absolute max. So you need to get up at least every 3 hours to take him outside. Also make sure to take him out after eating or drinking. I also would put the water up like 15 minutes before bed and go potty right before bed. That way he can't drink a ton right before going to sleep. Dogs will try very hard not to go to the bathroom in their pen. So if he is, he's being asked to hold it when he absolutely can't which isn't fair to him. It gets better. Just be patient. :)
