First scan - what to expect?

My first scan is Monday and I'm unsure what to expect. Will they tell me conception date? Due date? Any knowledge gratefully received! :)

Answer

They ask some questions, come up with an estimated due date based off LMP if known, and then give you an ultrasound to confirm dating. They can give you an estimate of conception if you ask, but they will usually say 1-2 weeks after your period, depending on when you ovulated. Unless you were diligently tracking for ovulation, it can be hard to say for sure. Depending on how far along you are will determine what you see, and if you can hear the heartbeat. We were able to make out a tiny baby and saw/heard heartbeat at 6w4d. It can be nerve wracking but it's exciting !
