Sex at 17

I just recently turned 17 and I'm not on birth control because my mom doesn't feel like I need it. I've been dating my boyfriend for a year and a half and the only reason we haven't had sex yet is because I get paranoid about pregnancy easily. He is also a Virgin so there is no worry about stds. He understands and is willing to wait for when I'm ready. Any advice to help rid of my paranoia?
